Jason Rooney

For 16 years I've been plying my skills in the advertising world. Starting as a know nothing at BBDO Toronto in 1998 I was quickly thrown into the world of Chrysler retail. This meant lots of ads, in various sizes, with different versions to cover the country, all done quickly to meet the daily and weekly paper deadlines. As I gained the trust of the creative teams and other production artists I was given brand work as well. The real glory jobs!

BBDO gave me 4 years of valuable experience on a number of clients as well as a solid footing in dealing with the late hours and stressed out presentation team for new business pitches. It served me well when I moved to the Ottawa area and started my own design business, Red Top Design. Red Top Design certainly dealt with smaller clients but it provided more of an opportunity for coming up with my own creative ideas. Focusing mostly on company logos, business cards, and brochures I was able to build a solid client base and branch out to other projects. Projects such as pricing books and business directory phone books. The phone book was a definite lesson in organization.

Never breaking my ties with BBDO Toronto and continuing to do freelance work for them on the side I noticed my increasing value to them and offered to return to the agency fold. In 2006 I moved back to Toronto and the cozy confines of 2 Bloor West and there I've remained. Since my return I've had the pleasure of working on Chrysler in both Canada and USA, Mitsubishi, RBC, Starbucks, Cara Foods, BlackBerry, and the all powerful new business pitches.

With the gradual move by advertisers away from print and more into a digital world I took it upon myself to begin learning Flash. It's an ongoing process but my current skill level has me producing ads for our Starbucks client on a monthly basis. It's something I enjoy as it provides a new challenge and sense of satisfaction when I can overcome those challenges.
Jason is the best thing to ever happen to me.
